Most things in life amount to struggle for dominance. Homo Sapiens versus Neanderthals, hunter versus the prey… it does not matter, the end result is normally: there is a winner and a loser. An important point missed is whether or not in this steel cage match there is even a survivor.
Vanquishing the enemy sounds so extremely noble. Especially, when the enemy is something tangible, evil or wrong. Too much man has concentrated only on what he considers is right or wrong, ignoring in the battles over beliefs and philosophies the complex symbiotic relationships between things and taking into account only one side of the coin or the other. The entire essence is not even considered in this heads or tails combat. Destroying the competition becomes an end in and of itself. Doing so only leads to certain destruction, usually for both parties.
The President versus the press. Real news versus fake news…
Instead of fighting to win all at any cost, a better strategy seems to be struggling to obtain the proper equilibrium. It might be a good thing dinosaurs no longer roam the earth. When pushing for a mass extinction, better get the science right.
Be careful what you wish for.
